Spelling
We believe that a firm foundation in spelling enables children to read more fluently and write with more confidence. Spelling is therefore practised daily in 15 minute sessions. The spelling sessions cover words which are being practised in Reading for Reading (R4R) sessions, including: words with letter combinations, prefix and suffix words, theme vocabulary words and common exception words. Children are also taught spelling rules, which they can then apply to their writing. As with writing, we believe that modelling to children is key to their learning. The spelling format we use is to therefore model to children how to spell the words, followed by a chance for children to independently practise.
