Y2 Animal Compositions
This is an excerpt from our Y2 Knowledge Organiser for composing. We have included some sound recordings of the pieces we composed and performed in groups. We’re excited to share our music with you.
Year 2 Music
Y2 - Compositions showing two pitches – Tom & Jerry
Y2 start their year in music by thinking about ‘pitch’. We listen out for changes in pitch in songs and notice the different pitches of the boomwhackers, which we are learning to play.
We then build upon our Y1 composition work (based on the story of Tiddalik) by composing pieces of music in two pitches: a high pitch for the mouse, Jerry and a low pitch for the cat, Tom.
All the children came up with exciting ideas for their music and recorded their compositions using circles on two lines. All that’s needed to write some more of this kind of music is paper and a pencil, so do continue composing at home! Mrs Addison would love to see your compositions!
